For me, it was a sudden realisation that my advocacy for a better human life couldn't exclude non-human lives. - Saket Sambhav

Being a Bengali where fish, meat, milk, and dairy were a normal part of life. Like many others, I never questioned the suffering hidden behind these products.

Everything changed when I started listening to Acharya Prashant in late 2025. For the first time, I became aware of the exploitation and violence faced by animals in the food industry.

I had already stopped consuming meat, fish, and eggs in 2024, but after learning about the dairy industry, I embraced veganism in January 2026 and have been strictly vegan since April 2026.

Looking back, I feel regret—not because I intended harm, but because I was unaware. This journey is not about guilt; it is about awakening.

If unnecessary suffering is inflicted on innocent beings for our taste, habit, or tradition, what is our responsibility?

For me, the answer is simple: to live with greater awareness, compassion, and honesty, and to help others become aware.

The world does not need more judgment; it needs more awareness. Compassion should never be partial.

Courts and legislative frameworks globally are slowly shifting from treating animals merely as property to recognising them as sentient beings with fundamental rights. The philosophical landscape is evolving rapidly.

I made the shift to a fully plant-based lifestyle in October 2025. It started as a choice and quickly became a baseline for compassionate living. For anyone in this group currently on the fence about veganism - what is your biggest hurdle right now? Let’s troubleshoot it.
