Engineering a Greener Future: 1,000 Seed Balls for the Sundarbans π²
βIn a beautiful collaboration to protect and restore the ecology of the Sundarbans, Sukher Swarga Foundation and Cognizant Foundation recently came together at the Safalya Academy school campus for a special Seed Ball Making Activity.
βIt was a day filled with incredible energy and purpose. A dedicated team of corporate employees from Cognizant Foundation traveled to our campus, joining hands with the Sukher Swarga team and the enthusiastic young students of Safalya Academy. Working side-by-side, this wonderful collective effort resulted in the creation of 1,000 seed balls!
βπ± What is Next for These 1,000 Seed Balls?
βThese seed ballsβcarefully crafted using a blend of rich soil, organic compost, and native timber seeds (such as neem and mahogany)βare currently being dried and safely stored.
- βThe Plan: As soon as the monsoon rains arrive, our team and volunteers will scatter these seed balls across barren patches, river embankments, and deforested areas of the Sundarbans.
- βThe Impact: Nature will take its course. The rainfall will dissolve the protective clay, allowing 1,000 native trees to take root naturally, binding the soil and restoring the green canopy of our region.
βπ¬ From the Heart: A Truly Sweet Activity
β"This initiative was the perfect blend of activity-based learning and environmental stewardship. Watching corporate professionals, grassroots changemakers, and rural school children sit together on the ground, getting their hands muddy for a shared cause, was deeply moving. It was truly a sweet and heartwarming activity. These 1,000 seed balls represent 1,000 future trees that will shield our communities and nurture our ecosystem."
βπ€ With Deep Gratitude
βOur heartfelt thanks go out to the Cognizant Foundation team for their incredible support, their presence, and for inspiring our students. We are equally proud of our teachers, volunteers, and bright students who put their hearts into making this event a massive success.
βTogether, we are not just planting seeds; we are growing hope for the Sundarbans. π
can we add amaltas, neem and Jamun seed balls?
we added neem, will add jamun and amaltas also.
SwapanSuin Sukher Swarga Foundation Pls share the budget of this 1000 balls.
- How are you going to maintain this? As these trees would need a good care.
- I studied about the seed bank a few days back, and was shocked to know the situation - can we ensure we plant good natural non-synthetic seeds, and save them them for the future too?
- Should we put this on our next mission - as Mangroves are already there, but I think we need these native seed bank as well. Lets discuss.. ππ»
KaranΒ we were discussing about this na, a few days back..? We can do this around Delhi NCR too. Swapan ji can be our guide/trainer.
Budget is very less 5 to 7 rupees per seed !
-
Not that !
Natural Germination: Seed balls don't need daily watering. We scatter them just before the monsoon. The rain naturally dissolves the clay, and the compost inside gives immediate nutrition to the seeds.
-
yes we may do if land is good.
-
yes dada we may do!
yes I may do.
SwapanSuin Sukher Swarga FoundationΒ Lets do 10,000 seeds.
5 different variety equally divided. Neem, Jamun, Amaltas, and two more?
Lets also make sure to save future seeds somewhere safe.. You can create a seed bank or something for future generations. These trees won't be used for consumption but seed bank purpose.
Can we make this our next mission? Please come up with a plan, like number of days, budget, and all.
